Relationship and Sex Education

As a part of your child’s educational experience at Barton Moss CP Primary School, we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) education that gives children and young people the knowledge, under-standing, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future

As you may already be aware, the Department for Education has announced changes to relationships and sex education following nationwide consultation. These changes came into effect from September 2020 and all schools will be required to comply with the updated requirements.  The statutory guidance can be found at:

At Barton Moss, we have always recognised the crucial role RSE plays in the education and wellbeing of all our children. It has always been an integral part of our curriculum, taught both as stand alone sessions and through cross curricular learning.

In order to ensure that all the statutory requirements are covered throughout school in a sensitive and age appropriate way, we are now going to be following an online scheme of work, provided by KAPOW.  This scheme does not only ensure that the statutory objectives are taught but also combines them with additional RSE objectives, ensuring our children are given the tools to become, life long learners and acquire personal skills and attributes to help them in their future lives. The RSE units are taught in sequence throughout each year group as follows:

  • - Families and Relationships
  • - Health and Well being
  • - Safety and the changing body
  • - Citizenship
  • - Economic well being
  • - Transition to the next stage of education
